FOR FIRST TIME PATIENTS
Your first naturopathic appointment at Tangible Health
New to naturopathic care? Here’s what to expect. At Tangible Health, our Toronto naturopathic doctors take the time to understand your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals before building a personalized care plan.
WHY THIS FEELS LIKE A BIG STEP
Most of us only see a practitioner when something is already wrong.
That’s how the healthcare system trained us. You wait until the pain is bad enough, the symptom is loud enough, the problem is undeniable enough. So booking an appointment starts to feel like an admission that something is seriously wrong with you.
That’s not true here. Coming in while you feel mostly fine, or just a little off, is not an overreaction. That's the entire point. The best time to understand your body is before it forces you to. You don’t have to fall apart first to deserve real answers.
Nobody waits for the garden to wilt before they tend it.
You water your garden before the leaves brown. You check the soil before nothing grows. You notice the small things early, because you know that’s when they’re easiest to make right. We’ve never been taught to do this for our own bodies. Not because it’s a bad idea, but because the tools to look properly weren’t there. Now they are.
The hardest part was never the work. It’s giving yourself the permission to start before things get bad.
HOW WE PRACTICE
Six principles guiding our naturopathic care.
Six principles sit at the heart of naturopathic medicine and everything we do, the reason your care looks different from what you're used to.
First, do no harm
The safest, least invasive path that still gets results that make you feel great.
Trust the body to heal
We give your body what it needs to recover, not a lifetime of prescriptions.
Treat the cause
We follow the symptom to its root, not just quiet the noise.
Doctor as teacher
You understand your body and every choice behind your care.
Treat the whole person
Same diagnosis, different people. Your care plan is personalized just for you.
Prevent, don’t wait
"Watch and wait" isn't a plan. Act early, before there's a problem to fix.
BEFORE WE GO FURTHER
What naturopathic medicine looks like at Tangible Health.
Naturopathic medicine here means looking at your whole body system, ordering proper testing, and building a plan from what the evidence actually supports. It’s rigorous. It’s personalized. And it’s meant to work with the rest of your care, not replace it.
Works with your care, not around it
We complement your general physician and specialists. You don't have to choose between them and us.
Built on evidence, and personalized
Every recommendation is grounded in research and your own test results and explained so you understand the why.
Regulated, held to a standard
Our naturopathic doctors are registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, the same regulatory body that governs naturopathic care across the province.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What to expect at your first naturopathic appointment.
The fear of the unknown is usually worse than the thing itself. So here’s the whole process, start to finish, before you book anything.
STEP 01
Discover - Getting the full picture
Your first consultation. 90 minutes, going through your full history, symptoms, and lifestyle- the things other appointments never had time for.
STEP 02
Understand - Filling in the gaps
We look deeper. If testing helps complete the picture, we order it here. This is where the guesswork ends and the real picture starts to form.
STEP 03
Personalize - Care plan built around you
A plan built specifically for you, based on your consultation and any test results. It lays out what we're treating, how, and what we're working toward together.
STEP 04
Thrive - Treatment & check-ins
Treatment begins, and follow-ups keep it working as you do. This is the part where things start to shift, and you start to thrive. We stay with you as your health evolves.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST VISIT
How to prepare for your first naturopathic appointment.
Really. You can book a discovery call or consultation right now with zero preparation. But people often ask what to bring to the first full consultation, so if you want to make it as useful as possible, here’s what helps.
And if you arrive with none of it, that’s completely fine. We’ll start with a conversation and go from there.
Any recent bloodwork or test results
If you’ve had labs done in the past year or so, bring them. We’d rather build on what already exists than repeat it.
A list of medication and supplements
Whatever you’re currently taking, including doses if you know them. This helps us make sure everything works together safely.
Any prior diagnoses or specialist notes
If another practitioner has already looked into something, that history saves us time.
A rough sense of timelines
When things started, what’s changed, what you’ve already tried.
WHEN YOU’RE READY
Clarity about your health, whenever you want it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The things people usually want to know first.
Have questions before booking? Here are answers to some of the most common questions new patients ask. Our clinic is always here to help you with answering questions whenever needed.
-
No referral is needed. You can book an appointment directly with us.
-
Not at all. Plenty of patients come to us when things are manageable but not quite right, or simply because they want to understand their health more completely before a problem forces the issue. Feeling fine is not the same as feeling your best.
-
No. We work with what you're already doing, not around it. At your first visit we take a full inventory of your medications and supplements and make sure everything we recommend fits safely alongside them. Any decision to change a prescription stays with your prescribing physician.
-
Many extended health plans in Ontario cover naturopathic medicine. It varies by plan, so it's worth a quick call to your insurer before booking. We provide official receipts for every appointment that you can submit for reimbursement where coverage applies.
-
Both work. We see patients in person at our Toronto clinic and virtually anywhere in Ontario. Your consultation, testing, follow-ups, and full care plan all work seamlessly across both.
