SERVICES · HYDROTHERAPY
The oldest medicine.
Simple as water.
Hydrotherapy is one of the oldest therapeutic tools in naturopathic medicine. It uses the healing properties of water, temperature, and pressure to stimulate circulation, support detoxification, and activate the body's own repair mechanisms.
WHAT IS HYDROTHERAPY?
Hydrotherapy works with the body's physiology rather than overriding it.
Hydrotherapy uses water at varying temperatures and pressures to produce specific physiological effects. Heat dilates blood vessels, relaxes muscles, and encourages tissue repair. Cold contracts blood vessels, stimulates circulation, and activates the immune and nervous systems. Alternating between the two creates a pumping action that moves blood, lymph, and waste through the body more efficiently.
These effects are real, measurable, and well-documented. Hydrotherapy has been a cornerstone of naturopathic practice precisely because it works with the body's physiology rather than overriding it.
HOW HYDROTHERAPY WORKS & HELPS
The therapeutic power of hydrotherapy comes from the contrast. Each temperature does something distinct, and alternating them multiplies the effect.
Alternating warm and cool creates a pumping action that moves blood, lymph, and waste through the body more efficiently. This is where hydrotherapy's cumulative, whole-body benefit comes from and is one of the gentlest and most broadly supportive therapies in our toolkit.

OUR APPROACH & WHAT TO EXPECT
Gentle, restful, & cumulative.
Constitutional Hydrotherapy is our primary form of treatment, alternating warm and cool compresses across the trunk with a mild stimulation technique that supports nervous system and organ function. Patients rest comfortably throughout, and most describe it as deeply relaxing. It is one of the gentlest, most broadly supportive therapies in our toolkit, and it integrates well with almost everything else we do.
At Tangible Health, Hydrotherapy is coordinated with your wider care plan. We build a picture of your specific situation and work from there. Recommendations are grounded in research and calibrated to your life.

Before Treatment- Your practitioner will briefly review your current health history and confirm that hydrotherapy is appropriate. No special preparations are needed.
During your session- You’ll rest comfortably on a treatment table while warm and cool compresses are alternated across your body. Sessions typically run 45-60 minutes. Many patients fall asleep.
After your session- You’ll likely feel relaxed and grounded. Some patients notice improved energy or digestion in the days following. Hydrotherapy produces cumulative benefits with regular sessions.

-
It is broadly safe and suitable for most patients, including those who are older or managing chronic conditions. Your practitioner will review your health history beforehand and adjust the protocol as needed.
-
Not at all. Constitutional Hydrotherapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment. The alternating temperature can feel stimulating, but it is comfortable throughout.
-
Hydrotherapy is incredibly safe for most people, but because temperature shifts powerfully impact your circulatory system, we take precautions. We screen every patient beforehand to ensure safety. Hydrotherapy may need to be modified or avoided if you have certain cardiovascular conditions, a pacemaker, unmanaged high blood pressure, open wounds, or active skin infections. We always tailor the intensity and temperature of your treatment to match your current health status perfectly.

Absolutely! In fact, we love teaching patients how to integrate simple water therapies into their daily routines. Finishing your morning shower with 30 to 60 seconds of cold water is an excellent way to boost circulation and energy. Localized hot and cold compresses or therapeutic epsom salt foot baths are also fantastic, accessible ways to maintain your progress and support your body's natural recovery pathways between clinic visits.

Many patients experience immediate relief from acute pain, muscle tension, or mental stress during their very first session. For chronic conditions, systemic inflammation, or long-term immune support, we typically recommend a series of 4 to 6 sessions spaced closely together. This allows the physiological benefits to build on each other, creating lasting changes in your circulation, nervous system regulation, and overall cellular recovery.
